Our coarse activated carbon in food grade quality is a High-quality, natural additive for all types of planting substrates. Due to its open-pore structure it acts like a filter in the pot: it binds pollutants, neutralizes odors and effectively prevents waterlogging and root rot.

The coal particles loosen heavy soils and improve the oxygen supply in the root zone. Ideal for demanding plants such as succulents, tillandsias, orchids, bonsai or in hydroponics. Also in terrariums or indoor gardening. can be used as a drainage and cleaning layer.

Application recommendation

• Substrate mixture: Use 5–15% activated carbon as an additive.
• Drainage layer: 1–2 cm of activated charcoal at the bottom of the pot – can be combined with lava if desired.
• Hydroculture: Sprinkle between the water reservoir and the plant to create a clean environment.
• Terrariums: Incorporate as a base under moss or soil.

Pro tip 🌿: Especially recommended for sensitive plants or in combination with mineral substrates.
